Telko has long been at the forefront of sustainable and efficient logistics in Finland. Through a trusted partnership with Kaukokiito, Telko has continuously enhanced its domestic logistics operations, ensuring that they align with our environmental goals and strategic needs. A key step in this journey has been the adoption of renewable diesel solutions, further highlighting Telko’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining operational excellence.
Telko’s collaboration with Kaukokiito began in the 1980s, initially focusing on transportation. Over time, this partnership has expanded in alignment with Telko’s evolving needs and priorities. By 2007, Telko centralized all Finnish transport logistics under Kaukokiito’s management, and in 2014, storage operations followed suit.
The Rauma storage facility, tailored specifically for Telko’s operations, is a cornerstone of this evolution. Strategically located adjacent to Telko’s Rauma terminal, the warehouse was built to meet the stringent requirements of handling hazardous chemicals, as defined by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes).
– “From the start, our needs were central to the design and operations of the Rauma warehouse,” says Jarkko Kuusisto, Telko’s Operations Manager. “Its proximity to the terminal not only ensures faster delivery schedules.”
– “At the same time, this model eliminates a couple of handling steps, as goods don’t need to be picked up from an external warehouse but are collected directly at the terminal’s loading bays. In addition to speeding up the supply chain, this also reduces the risk of transport damage,” adds Juho Hermikoski, Kaukokiito’s Regional Manager in Rauma.
This streamlined supply chain demonstrates Telko’s focus on efficiency and safety, delivering value directly to its customers.
Over the past decade, Telko has significantly refined its logistics and storage strategy. The decision to consolidate operations in Rauma reflects our focus on synergy, sustainability, and adaptability.
– “Having a single partner manage our supply chain provides unparalleled operational cohesion. Few operators can deliver the integrated benefits we see today,” Jarkko notes. “Rauma’s location is crucial; it aligns with our reliance on sea containers, enhancing efficiency while reducing our environmental impact.”
Telko’s ability to scale logistics services according to demand further underscores this model’s flexibility, turning fixed costs into scalable, variable ones.
– “Our international growth has increased logistics volumes significantly, making scalability vital,” says Anna-Kaisa Hiekka, Telko’s Head of Supply Chain. “By working with a partner who can adapt to our needs, we can stay focused on our core business while ensuring operational excellence.”
Telko’s adoption of renewable diesel for transport logistics is a tangible example of our sustainability efforts. By incorporating Kaukiito’s BIO solution, Telko has significantly reduced transport-related carbon emissions, reinforcing its leadership in environmentally conscious logistics.
– “Transparency is key when we evaluate the environmental impact of our supply chain,” Anna-Kaisa explains. “While we operate in nearly 20 countries, Finland sets the benchmark for sustainability and collaboration, particularly with the detailed data we receive about emissions. This level of insight and commitment inspires us to raise expectations with our partners globally.”
Renewable diesel not only simplifies emissions reduction but also exemplifies Telko’s proactive approach to integrating sustainability into its operations.
– “The choice was simple for us,” Anna-Kaisa adds. “This solution aligns perfectly with our environmental objectives and underscores Telko’s role as a leader in sustainable logistics.”
